YOUNG DRAMATISTS' PROJECT (YDP) '10
A LETTER FROM THE PRODUCER
Dear Future Playwright,
This is quite an opportunity for you if you're determined to write plays or be involved in the theatre in any way.
The Gorilla Theatre's Young Dramatists' Project (YDP) was created ten years ago to introduce aspiring young playwrights to the theatre. There is no other program like it in Florida, and few like it in the entire United States.
The rules are easy: you must be an actively enrolled middle or high school student, be a resident of Hillsborough, Pinellas, or Pasco county, write a one-act play using the rules outlined in our submission guidelines, and submit the play to us to be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 15, 2010. Our panel of experts will choose the best four to five one-act plays from those submitted. And your play may be one of them.
The rewards are great. If your play is chosen, it will be worked on by a professional director and dramaturge, professional actors will appear in it, and a full production of it will be given by the Gorilla Theatre June 3-13, 2010. In addition, you will receive $250 in royalty fees and you will be nominated to become a member of the Dramatists' Guild (and we'll even pay your first year dues).
All of us at the Gorilla Theatre are very proud of the Young Dramatists' Project because we believe introducing young dramatists to the stage is a one-of-a-kind opportunity. Through this program and the theatre, who knows what other doors will open.
Put on paper what has been on your mind. Sharpen pencils and apply fingers to keyboard and create your destiny. Your voice should be heard. We're accepting submissions now through February 15, 2010 so don't wait until the last minute!
